The Excavating channel is an upgrade to the Extracting channel.
Instead of being placed on the 3x3 grid directly adjacent to the channel, resource blocks are placed on a bigger 5x5 grid. The base extraction speed is twice as fast, and the digging depth increases more per block.
Since the depth increases faster, the first Excavating channel will catch up quickly to any depth previously attained. Players can thus place a brand new channel in an appropriate spot instead of destroying existing structures.
