Plant is a speedy, generalist mutant with abilities that allow it to quickly switch between aggressive and defensive plays.
Abilities
Is Faster
Plant has 0.5 more speed than default, effectively starting with Extra Feet without the secondary effect.
While seeming like a minor change, this can greatly impact its playstyle. Plant has an easier time getting in and out of cover and can very quickly change its distance from enemies.
Snare Enemies
Plant's active ability fires a seed that turns into a stationary Snare. Each Plant can only have one Snare at a time. The snare will significantly slow down enemies caught in it, which can aid in grouping them up or keeping enemies with erratic movement patterns still.
By holding down the active button, you can also move your camera towards Snare, which is helpful to scout out the area. Snare also provides light in transitional areas and will stop fire and toxic gas from moving.
Throne Butt causes the Snare to execute enemies with 33% health or less. This is especially useful on bosses and can be used to reach a variety of breakpoints easily and is typically considered the best Throne Butt in game.
Ultra Mutations
Trapper
Trapper causes the seed to spawn five additional Snares in a randomized formation around the initial one. This is helpful for locking off large groups of enemies, and with Throne Butt to efficiently execute many enemies at once.
Killer
Killer causes a Sapling to spawn when enemies are killed on the Snare. The Sapling will fly towards enemies and suicide to deal high damage blood explosions. If the time is taken to do this on the right groups of enemies, then you can increase your overall damage with the Saplings while also removing some projectiles.
Building
Meta or Ranged
Plant performs better with Meta builds, as Plant's passive speed boost makes it harder to precisely dodge projectiles which is key to Ranged gameplay.
If Ranged is desired, then Trapper, Plant's inherit effectiveness with Bolt weapons and very strong Throne Butt will be desirable traits to consider.
Preferred Weapons
Plant's abilities lend it to be able to perform effectively as both a close-range and long-range character. Due to this, Melee and Bolt weapons are generally seeked out, as well as Explosive and some Energy weapons due to how Snare groups up enemies.
Golden Weapons
The Golden Crossbow is an excellent starting choice that works well with Plant.
The Golden Grenade Launcher works well with Snare, and the faster projectile speed allows for using it from farther away.
The Golden Splinter Gun is a similarly strong choice to the Crossbow that deals with crowds better.
The Golden Wrench is an all-around great weapon for offense and defense.
Mutations
Recommended Mutations
Boiling Veins is decent insurance since Plant may accidentally run into its own explosions.
Bolt Marrow is recommended due to Snare making Plant good for Bolt weapons.
Long Arms allows Plant to more safely Melee enemies, which is already a good choice due to its speed and Snare.
Plutonium Hunger works well with Plant's speed, allowing you to very safely retrieve pickups.
Gamma Guts isn't necessarily a bad pick on Plant, but if you use it for protection against contact damage then it is generally unneeded due to Snare and the extra speed already providing that.
Not Recommended Mutations
Extra Feet is generally unneeded due to Plant's passive and may lead to taking damage on accident.
Co-op
Plants speed is both its largest strength and its biggest weakness when paired with other players. It makes a great partner to watch your back since it can quickly go to revive you but may also wander off farther before needing to be revived.
Snare also has various utility factors which may help out the group, and the strength it gains with Throne Butt means Plant will prefer other Mutants who have good ones.
Partners
Frog's gas spreading (especially with Throne Butt) can be made less dangerous to teammates due to Snare trapping it in place, and while niche, the two can cooperatively pair their actives to create static damage areas.
As Melting will inherently die very often, Plant can quickly revive them if (when) they die. Additionally, both characters have very strong Throne Butts.
If the build has room for it, a Meta Plant protecting a Ranged Steroids can prove quite an effective combo, especially with Throne Butt.
Skeleton's abysmal speed stat pairs horribly with Plant, as they will struggle to keep up with each-other and the run is at great risk if Plant dies far away from it.
Skins
B Skin
Unlocked by reaching the Nuclear Throne in under 10 minutes as Plant.
Added by Vanilla.
Orchid
Unlocked by rerolling Heavy Heart as Plant.
Has unique Snare sprites.
Equipped Golden Weapon is replaced by a uniquely textured "Orchid" Weapon.
Plant was part of the original 5 Mutants created for Wasteland Kings.
Plant appears to have formerly been a carnivorous plant of some kind, possibly a pitcher plant or Venus flytrap.
Plant's sprite is the tallest out of the Vanilla Mutants (excluding Big Dog).
Plant being the fastest Vanilla Mutant is ironic, as a plant would normally be stationary.
While not shown in-game, Plant uses its leaves/additional roots to hold weapons.
Though portrayed as a feral mindless killer with repetitive thoughts, Plant appears to have at least a minuscule degree of mercy or compassion, as it does not attempt to kill the other Mutants.
