Melting is a glass cannon, with poor survivability in exchange for faster Mutations and a very powerful active ability. Melting is primarily aimed for experienced players due to their difficulty, and does not scale well with continued Looping.
Melting starts out with 2 HP instead of the usual 8 HP
Melting has the passive of increasing the amount of rads enemies drops by 1, including enemies that don't drop rads (I.D.P.D. Troops, Resurrected Freaks, Etc.).
This allows the player to mitigate the previous passive by allowing a faster ramp-up the levels in order to get mutations that will aid you.
Melting starts out with 2 max HP compared to the rest of the player characters, putting him at a great disadvantage by discouraging reckless play, and encouraging strategic and careful play.
Melting has the ability to detonate any visible corpse (both player/monster corpses and destroyed stage props) on screen into a Blood Explosion, with larger corpses detonating into 3 blood explosions instead, dealing up to 12 damage (4 damage for 3 ticks) each, depending on the proximity of the enemy to its radius. Blood Explosions do not destroy the terrain nor damage the player, but destroy any projectiles and detonate any grenades caught in its radius. This ability is meant to be both a defensive and an offensive tool, giving you more room for aggressive play by using the corpses as damage, while also destroying any projectiles coming your way.
Throne Butt upgrades Explode Corpses by creating 3 Blood Explosions instead of 1 from every corpse. This does not increase the amount of explosions from larger corpses.
The improved active is as always a matter of preference as it's really useful if your playstyle revolves around getting the most out of BEs, ranging from bigger projectile clean-up to more damage in areas choke full of enemies.
Brain Capacity allows Melting to detonate any enemy that has 5 or less hp, including the ones that meet the threshold while at full HP. This gives Melting the opportunity of detonating enemies from safety without requiring to kill/damage enemies past the threshold.
Brain Capacity pairs well with Scarier Face, as it decreases the enemy total HP by 20%, allowing for more targets to trigger Explode Corpses with.
Brain Capacity is widely considered as the safe option instead of Detachment due to the fact that it doesn't come with any trade-offs that could lead to a disadvantage.
Brain Capacity while good for the early stages of the game, it loses it's effectiveness in the run the more you loop, as each loop increases the enemy total HP by 5%.
Detachment trades 50% of your Max HP for the benefit of choosing 3 extra mutations. The mutation sets to choose from will be affected by passive effects such as Crown of Destiny and Horror's extra mutation choice.
Detachment is a risky Ultra as it makes Melting even more vulnerable than he is by putting his max HP at 1, nullifying the refresh of Strong Spirit, halving the benefit from Rhino Skin if already picked and even killing the player if they pick up the Crown of Death with 1 max hp. However, this ultra can be mitigated by avoiding Rhino Skin until Ultra as the crown will subtract 50% of your max HP upon pick up, allowing you to get from 1 to 5 HP in the case you get Rhino Skin in one of the 3 mutation sets.
Detachment is preferable if you plan to loop a lot, as the increase in enemy max HP from will slowly negate Brain Capacity use.
Meta is the usual way to go with Melting as it doesn't leave Melting open to melee enemies or projectiles.
Ranged can be played, but it's discouraged as you won't have a melee to hit enemies close or behind walls (especially with Long Arms) or to deflect and destroy projectiles with the large majority of melee weapons
Melting's lower HP puts him in a precarious position when it comes to weapons, however the best choices are always weapons with long range and fast to instant projectile speed (Crossbows, Laser and the majority of Hyper weapons work the best) alongside a melee with a fast swing speed for defense.
It is also recommended to do your best to avoid short range melee weapons if you don't have long arms and any Blood Weapon, as they will consume hp instead of ammo in the case you run out of ammo, but most importantly the Blood Hammer as it not only puts you close to the enemies, but also will penalize you 1HP whenever you hit no enemy.
As mentioned previously, any weapon will benefit Melting greatly as long as it doesn't put him in the way of danger.
Melting's increased rad pickups allows for an easier time to get the levels up as soon as possible.
Explode Corpses is as useful to your teammates as it is for you in destroying projectiles, but a burden if you accidentally detonate a friendly or enemy grenade underneath you or your teammates.
