After being critically wounded, Grey Irma enters a Mould to create and possess clayborn replicas of herself to fight enemies and progress. At certain Dark Mirrors, Grey Irma must shed a body ("die") and create a new one in order to activate it. Upon returning to the mirror her previous body retains a degree of sentience and will usually elect to fight Irma to the death. One doppleganger, Kind Dopple, will ask to be let go rather than fought and the player can decide its fate.
<spoiler>Later, it's revealed the player character ends up controlling a doppleganger of the Grey Irma featured earlier and she must fight herself for the right to survive.</s>
